Dear parents,
I hope you had a nice weekend. This week, we have a couple of extra things going on, so be sure to read all the way through.
Last week, our biggest highlight was having the opportunity to switch classes to learn about the regions of the United States. Students got to work with each 4th grade teacher, completing fun activities to help them learn about the regions. We also created alliteration posters using the sounds of our first names and learned about the importance of being clear in a how to text by writing and trying out a journal entry entitled: "How to Draw a Stick Figure."
Reading: Unit 3, Week 3
Essential Question: How can one person make a difference?
Comprehension Skill: Point of View
Vocabulary Skill: Synonyms and Antonyms
Math: We will continue in Unit 4. This week we have an open response lesson, a second lesson on multidigit multiplication, and a lesson about mass conversion.
Writing: We will begin our How To paper draft.
Social Studies: We will finish up learning about the different regions of the United States, and then, students will begin a state research paper and project. Each student will choose a state to research.
Also this week:
-Thursday and Friday, we will take our winter MAP assessments. Please be sure students get plenty of sleep and eat a good breakfast these days. This is a checkpoint to see how they are progressing so far this year.
-Also on Thursday and Friday, students will have the opportunity to go to the Holiday Shop during specials, where they can buy Christmas gifts for friends and family. If they would like to participate, they should bring money to school with them.
As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, let me know.
Thanks, and have a great week!
Ms. Duvall
PS: Below you will find some leftover photos from our electrical circuit experiment and our turkey disguise project.
